Privacy Policy
Your library stays yours.
The short version
The developer collects nothing. There's no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no server of the app's own. Your music, your listening history, your likes and what you own stay on your Mac and your iPhone. The app contacts other services only to look things up or to do something you turned on, and those are listed below.
iPhone and Apple Watch
- Your library. The music, covers and library database the Mac sends are kept in the app's own folder on the iPhone, left out of iCloud backups. Plays, likes and the albums you mark as owned are saved on the iPhone and go to your Mac at the next sync.
- Syncing with your Mac. The iPhone and the Mac find each other on your local network (Bonjour) and talk directly, encrypted with a key the two exchange when you pair them. Nothing goes through the internet or any server.
- Last.fm (only if you connect it). The songs you play (title, artist, album, when you played them) are sent to your Last.fm account, using your own API key, which is stored in the iPhone's keychain. Last.fm's privacy policy applies to what it keeps.
- Concerts (only if your Mac has Ticketmaster or JamBase keys). To list concerts on an artist page, the artist's name and the general area you chose on the Mac (a rough map square, not your address or ZIP code) are sent to Ticketmaster or JamBase, whose own privacy policies apply.
- Widgets and Apple Watch. They show a small summary (counts, recent listening, owned albums, the song playing and a few small covers) kept on the iPhone and sent only to your own paired watch.
- The sample library is built into the app and works offline. Nothing you do in it is sent anywhere, not even to your Mac.
Mac
The library, your listening history and your settings stay on your Mac, in one folder. To look things up, the Mac app contacts MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive (matching, covers, artist and album info), Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons (descriptions and photos), and Deezer (artist photos you choose). Only when you turn them on: AcoustID (audio fingerprints, with your key), Last.fm (scrobbling, with your account), your public library's catalog website (your card number and PIN go only to that site), Apple's iTunes Search API (song previews), Apple's geocoder (to locate the ZIP code you enter), and Ticketmaster and JamBase (artist names and the area searched). API keys, secrets and your library PIN are kept in your keychain.
Children
The app collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, this page is updated and the change is noted in the changelog. Questions: open an issue on GitHub (see also Support). The app is open source, so you can check all of this in its code.
